Communities Along
the Trail
The
Kokosing Gap Trail runs East to West from Mount Vernon to Danville
and passes through both Gambier and Howard. Each of these communities
provides a point of access to or departure from
the trail.
Mount Vernon
(pop. 14,973) is the county seat of Knox County with a busy downtown
and tree-lined residential streets. The town is the home of Mount.
Vernon Nazarene University.
The Village
of Gambier (pop. 2,065) is the home of Kenyon
College--a community within a community--whose 1,500 students
nearly double the population during the school year.Gambier's downtown
includes restaurants and shops.
Howard (pop.
740) is the smallest village on the trail but is the home of the
lake resort community of Apple Valley.
Danville (pop.
1,007) is a rural community with several outstanding bed and breakfast
destinations.
